Rural City is a research project aimed to explore the millenary dichotomy between city and nature, and to comprehend its contemporary evolution in a specific geographic context: the suburban area of Bologna, Italy. An answer to the uncontrolled and deregulated sprawling that characterizes some Italian cities today, this proposal applies for density, by working on those interstitial, in-between spaces that constitute the physiological thresholds between city and countryside. If transformed into real connectors, these spaces can also be the ideal field for the introduction of new architectural typologies: habitable greenhouses, vertical parks, green nodes, etc.
